Senator Lalong congratulates new Vom veterinary institute Chief Executive Gunya, urges commitment to livestock development

The Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District and former Governor of Plateau State, Distinguished Senator Simon Bako Lalong, has congratulated Dr. Yakubu Dashe Gunya on his appointment as Director/Chief Executive of the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI), Vom, Plateau State.

Dr. Gunya paid a visit to Senator Lalong to express appreciation for his support and encouragement, while reaffirming his commitment to serving the Institute with integrity, loyalty and professionalism.

Senator Lalong described Dr. Gunya’s appointment as a manifestation of God’s will and thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for giving him the opportunity to serve the nation in such an important institution.

He urged the new Director to justify the confidence reposed in him by bringing his experience and expertise to bear in repositioning the National Veterinary Research Institute and strengthening its contribution to Nigeria’s agricultural and livestock development.

Senator Lalong who once served as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agricultural Institutions and Colleges particularly charged Dr. Gunya to pay close attention to challenges associated with livestock diseases, veterinary research and livestock management, noting that Nigeria is increasingly moving towards the formalisation and industrialisation of the livestock sector.

According to him, the National Veterinary Research Institute has a critical role to play in providing the research, scientific innovation and technical support required to build a modern, productive and sustainable livestock industry.

He further encouraged Dr. Gunya to maintain professionalism, accountability and dedication in the discharge of his responsibilities, while working with relevant stakeholders to advance the mandate of the Institute.

Senator Lalong wished the new NVRI Director a successful tenure and expressed confidence that his leadership would contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the Institute and the livestock sector in Nigeria.
