A former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDP), Peter Obi, has celebrated his elder brother, Dominic Ositadimma Obi, on the occasion of his 75th birthday.

Obi described Dominic as a man of exceptional integrity, humility, contentment and responsibility, saying his character and principles have remained a source of pride and inspiration to the family.

In a birthday message issued on Sunday, August 30, 2026, Obi said his celebration of his elder brother went beyond their family relationship or the milestone of attaining 75 years.

According to him, Dominic’s life has been defined by values that deserve recognition and emulation.

Obi recalled that during his eight years as Governor of Anambra State, his elder brother never visited his office or the Governor’s Lodge to seek personal favours.

He said Dominic, who works as a planner and contractor involved in building homes for people, never asked him for a government contract throughout his tenure as governor.

“Whenever we met, he would warmly embrace me and tell me that he was fine,” Obi recalled.

He added that Dominic would often remind him of his responsibilities to the people of Anambra State and urge him to remain faithful to the promises he made to the electorate.

“He would solemnly remind me to keep doing what I promised the people and never bring a bad name to the family and my community,” Obi said.

The former governor further disclosed that his brother would encourage him to remain committed to serving the public, particularly by reminding him that many Nigerians were facing greater difficulties than he was.

Obi said he later discovered that Dominic’s decision not to seek government favours was part of a broader resolution reached by members of the Obi family.

“I later came to understand that this was not peculiar to him alone. My family members had actually held a meeting and resolved that none of them would take advantage of my position as Governor,” he said.

According to Obi, the family agreed to protect the reputation he was building for the family and their community of Agulu.

He added that the principle was also extended to his children, who were expected to maintain the same standard of conduct.

Obi said that despite attaining the age of 75, Dominic remains passionate about the affairs of Nigeria and continues to offer him prayers and encouragement.

“Whenever we speak, he is full of prayers and good wishes. He constantly reminds me that if I have the opportunity to serve Nigeria, I should do so with honesty, integrity, and the interest of the people at heart,” Obi said.

The NDP presidential candidate thanked God for his brother’s life and the positive example he has continued to set for the family.

“Brother Dom, I thank God for the gift of your life and for the example you have set for our family. Your integrity, humility, contentment, and sense of responsibility are qualities worthy of celebration,” he said.

Obi prayed that God would continue to bless his elder brother with good health, grace and many more years of fulfilment.

“Happy 75th birthday, my dearest brother,” he added.
