The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the death of two persons, including popular Awka Master of Ceremonies, Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as Aiza, following a shooting incident in the Anambra State capital on Sunday evening.
The police said the victims were allegedly attacked by three unidentified gunmen suspected to be cultists, who were said to be travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla with an unknown registration number.
In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command strongly condemned the attacks, disclosing that the gunmen shot the two victims at separate locations within Awka.
According to the police, operatives immediately mobilised to the affected areas after receiving distress calls and commenced efforts to track down the attackers.
The victims were rushed to a hospital for medical attention but were later confirmed dead by medical personnel.
While one of the victims has yet to be identified, the second was confirmed as Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as Aiza, a well-known personality and Master of Ceremonies in Awka.
Police operatives reportedly recovered ₦7,550, a Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers from the scenes of the attacks.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has condemned the killings, describing the incident as unacceptable and a direct threat to peace and security in the state.
The Commissioner has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Awka, for a thorough and discreet investigation.
The Command said patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering had also been intensified across Awka and neighbouring communities as security operatives continue efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attacks.
The police have appealed to members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could assist in tracking down the suspects.
However, as investigations continue, the son of the slain MC, Ugo Aiza Valentine Nwosu, has dismissed claims circulating after his father’s death linking him to cultism, land grabbing and other controversies.
In an emotional tribute to his late father, Ugo described Aiza as a peaceful, generous and compassionate man whose life revolved around music and helping people.
He maintained that his father was neither a cultist nor a land grabber, insisting that allegations connecting him to cult-related violence and land disputes were false.
According to him, the late MC was deeply loved by many people because of his generosity and willingness to assist those facing difficult situations.
“My father was a very peaceful man,” Ugo said, adding that his father often spent a substantial part of his earnings helping strangers and people in need.
He recalled that Aiza stood against injustice, intervened in family disputes and helped restore peace in several homes.
Ugo said his father never discriminated against anyone and was always willing to lend a helping hand, even in situations where others would be afraid to get involved.
Describing his father as a creative and lively personality, he said the late MC had a deep passion for music and often maintained that “music heals the soul.”
The grieving son also revealed that one of the most painful aspects of his father’s death was that he had been working on rebuilding a new home for his parents.
According to him, he demolished his father’s old house and began constructing a new one, with plans to personally hand over the completed building to his parents so they could enjoy a better life.
He said he had also planned a special celebration aimed at recreating memories from his parents’ wedding and giving them an opportunity to enjoy their lives together.
“I only wanted my parents to enjoy the new home I was building for them while they were still alive,” he lamented.
Ugo expressed deep regret that his father died before the house could be completed and before he could fulfil the plans he had made for his parents.
He described the killing as heartbreaking and called on security agencies to ensure that everyone responsible for his father’s death is identified and brought to justice.
“My father was a peaceful man, but his death will not be forgotten,” he said.
He added that Aiza’s kindness, sacrifices, love for music and contributions to the lives of many people would remain unforgettable.
According to Ugo, the late MC was more than a father to his biological children, as his generosity and compassion had made him a father figure to many other people.
As the family continues to mourn his tragic death, they have called for justice, insisting that those behind the killing must be held accountable.
“Dad, you were loved. You were respected. Your kindness and sacrifices will not be forgotten,” Ugo said in his tribute.
The killing of Aiza and the second victim has continued to generate concern in Awka, as residents await the outcome of the police investigation into the deadly Sunday evening attacks.
