Governor Fintiri unveils rebuilt Yola market at N2.98bn, names it Modibo Adama Modern Market

Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa state has commissioned the newly reconstructed Yola Market to the tune of N2.98 billion which was Modobo Adama Market.
Fintiri said that the project marks the end of the recurring fire disasters, poor sanitation and congestion that had plagued the market for decades.
He said the reconstructed facility, now officially renamed Modibbo Adama Modern Market, Yola (MAMMY), reflects his administration’s commitment to providing modern infrastructure that promotes economic growth, protects livelihoods and restores public confidence.
Fintiri described the old market as congested and unhygienic trading centre that had become notorious for frequent fire outbreaks, which repeatedly destroyed shops and goods worth millions of naira, leaving many traders with devastating financial losses.
He said this rather attributing the recurring disasters to superstition, that his administration chooses a practical and lasting solution by demolishing and rebuilding the market with modern facilities designed to enhance safety and prevent future fire incidents.

The state governor noted that, market consists of 936 shops, comprising 816 lock-up shops and 120 open stalls, alongside upgraded infrastructure aimed at improving security, sanitation and the overall trading environment.
Fintiri also said that although the traders’ union initially submitted a list of 307 eligible beneficiaries, the government increased the allocation with 43 to make it 350 shops to accommodate possible omissions.This include other necessary facilities in the marked.
He directed the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industries to engage professional facility managers to oversee security, sanitation and maintenance of the market to preserve the investment.
He said the naming reflects the rich heritage of Yola and symbolises the state’s commitment to preserving its history while investing in modern infrastructure to stimulate economic growth.
In other to ensure proper management and sustainability of the facility, Fintiri directed the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industries to engage professional facility managers to oversee security, sanitation and routine maintenance.
He expressed confidence that the modern market would provide a safer and more conducive environment for businesses to thrive while boosting commercial activities in the state.
