Bauchi renames state varsity after Sa’adu Zungur

As a mark of respect and immortalization, Bauchi State Government has renamed the State University, Gadau to Sa’adu Zungur University, (SAZUG), Gadau.
The change of name was approved by the State Executive Council (SEC) during its meeting held on Wednesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Bauchi.
Briefing newsmen at the end of the meeting, State Education Commissioner, Dr. Aliyu Tilde said that the gazetting will soon take place to ensure that the new name took immediate effect.
Tilde said that the action was done to immortalise the name of late Malam Sa’adu Zungur (1915-1958), “a Bauchi indigene that was among the leaders that fought for our independence, the mentor of Malam Aminu Kano, a one time secretary of NCNC, a political activist whose progressive ideas shaped the Northern political culture to date. He was a great Hausa poet and social critic”.
The Commissioner added that, “Alhamdulillah, His Excellency and the Executive Council have helped the Ministry see the dream promise it made to the representatives of the family of Malam Mu’azu when they came praying for his befitting immortalization become real. His Excellency, the Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, is particularly happy with the idea. We thank him immensely.”
He described the day as being a great day in the history of education in Bauchi State stressing that with the new development, the family will for a long time appreciate what the government has done.
