The All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, Senator Uche Ekwunife, has promised to provide Akwu-Ukwu community with a functional electricity transformer within 90 days if elected in the 2027 general elections
Ekwunife gave the assurance during her campaign visit to the community, where she appealed to residents to support her return to the Senate, pointing to her previous contributions and development projects in the area.
The senator received a colourful welcome from traditional rulers, community leaders, women, children and other residents, who gathered in large numbers to express their support.
Members of the Igwe-in-Council and the President-General of Akwu-Ukwu, Sir Udoka Ejiakor, were among those who received her.
The atmosphere became more lively when Ekwunife joined women and children on the dance floor, dancing to a cultural praise song by popular Nigerian musician KCee. Her spontaneous participation attracted cheers and excitement from the crowd.
Addressing the gathering, former Anambra State House of Assembly member, Hon. Tony Uche, and APC Zonal Chairman, Chief Augustine Muomaife, called on the people to support the party’s candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives in the forthcoming elections.
They described the candidates as capable of representing the interests of the people effectively at the National Assembly.
The APC House of Representatives candidate, Hon. KK Ezekwelu, who was also present, expressed confidence in Ekwunife’s political experience and record of community development.
Ezekwelu said his decision to join her campaign tour was influenced by the positive accounts of her interventions in communities visited earlier. He promised that, if elected, he would work towards bringing similar development initiatives to Akwu-Ukwu.
In her remarks, Ekwunife urged the residents to judge her based on her previous achievements rather than political sentiments, insisting that her interventions in the community were visible evidence of her commitment to grassroots development.
She recalled her contributions to education, including the distribution of educational materials and the provision of school furniture to St. John Secondary School, Akwu-Ukwu.
She also disclosed that she had organised three free medical outreaches in the community, providing residents with medical consultations and medications at no cost.
Other interventions she highlighted included the installation of streetlights, donation of tricycles and the provision of grants exceeding ₦500,000 to two indigenes of the community.
According to her, the projects and empowerment initiatives reflected her commitment to improving the living conditions of the people and strengthening development at the grassroots.
She urged the electorate to support her senatorial ambition alongside other APC candidates in the 2027 elections, stressing that politics should be about addressing the needs of the people.
The major highlight of her address was her promise to ensure that Akwu-Ukwu gets a functional electricity transformer within three months of her inauguration as senator, should she emerge victorious.
The pledge, she said, was part of her commitment to addressing the community’s infrastructure challenges and improving the quality of life of residents.
The campaign visit ended on a note of excitement, with community leaders and residents expressing goodwill towards the senator and participating actively in the reception and campaign activities.
