The former Governor urged the newly elected Executive Council members to be steadfast in the discharge of their duties, commitment to ethics and professionalism as well as focus on Medical Doctors and other relevant health workers’ welfare as well as improving the poor health indices of the State.

He stressed the overall quality of healthcare service delivery just as he also called on them to build on past achievements for the benefit of Bauchi citizens.

Abubakar recalled that during his administration between 2015 and 2019, the NMA received several supports from government, including an 18-seater bus which has remains in active use, Certificate of Occupancy for land earmarked for an NMA Secretariat, salaries for medical officers upwardly revised under the CONMESS salary structure.

He also stated that his administration embarked on massive infrastructural development in the health sector through the declaration of emergency on renovation of secondary and primary healthcare facilities, provision of emergency ambulances, investing in Solar energy to power accident and emergency units as well as maternity and paediatric sections.

Also improved recruitment and retention of Medical Doctors and other relevant healthcare workers through provision of modest accommodation, increased hazard and rural posting allowances, ensuring all health workers are covered with medical insurance.

The administration also strengthened collaboration between Bauchi State and Federal Health tertiary institutions to support referrals, augment health workforce and improve quality of care as well as unlocking external funding by proactively engaging national and international development partners to mobilise additional funding and technical interventions that support human capital development and address poor health indices in the state.

He stressed that he believes that if all the measures are further implemented in partnership with the NMA, other health professional bodies, health workers and relevant stakeholders, it would accelerate progress towards accessible, resilient, and high‑quality healthcare across Bauchi State.
