In a strategic move to deepen international trade relations and promote institutional collaboration, the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has engaged the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce ahead of the 2025 Investment Gateway Summit.
Representing the ACCI President, Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN, PhD, at the high-level bilateral meeting was the Chamber’s First Deputy President, Prof. Adesoji Adesugba.
This was contained in a statement by Olayemi John-Mensah, ACCI Media & Strategy Officer.
The strategic engagement took place on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the headquarters of the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber in Basseterre, prior to the formal opening of the Summit at the Marriott Hotel.
The meeting, described as cordial and highly productive, brought together top executives of the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber, including Vice President Mr. Nick Menon, Immediate Past President Mr. Michael Davis, Adviser Ms. Giselle Matthews, Directors Ms. Sonya Parry and Ms. Patricia Walters, and Executive Director Ms. Sanya Alleyne.
Discussions focused on identifying mutual interests and exploring avenues for institutional collaboration. Key areas of interest included the structure and impact of the ACCI’s Business Entrepreneurship Skills and Technology (BEST) Centre, the operational framework of its Dispute Resolution Centre, and strategies for effective member engagement and support.
“There was a fruitful exchange of institutional practices, particularly on how both Chambers apply key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress and drive organisational growth,” Prof. Adesugba stated in his official report.
The outcome of the meeting highlighted a shared commitment to sustained communication, trust-building, and the development of future joint programmes aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, investment, and business policy advocacy across regions.
Prof. Adesugba recommended the establishment of a formal framework for institutional collaboration, the initiation of periodic virtual meetings between both Chambers, and further delegation exchanges as next steps.
Emerging Bilateral Relations
Although the formal bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Saint Kitts and Nevis remains at an early stage, it is steadily evolving, especially within the broader context of Africa–Caribbean cooperation. The countries share diplomatic ties, historical connections, and emerging trade interests, laying the groundwork for potential growth in sectors such as trade facilitation, investment promotion, and cultural diplomacy.
The Caribbean’s Growing Relevance to Africa
In today’s shifting global trade landscape, shaped by geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions, and rising regional alliances, the Caribbean is emerging as a strategic partner for Africa. The region offers a gateway to the Americas and plays a pivotal role in south-south cooperation, diaspora engagement, and market diversification.
“The Caribbean is more than a symbolic ally for Africa, it is a vital economic partner that can help build resilient trade systems and promote shared prosperity in an increasingly uncertain global economy,” Prof. Adesugba affirmed.
The ACCI’s participation at the Investment Gateway Summit and its bilateral engagement with the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber mark a significant step in the Chamber’s ongoing efforts to expand global partnerships and champion economic integration across continents.
