The Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN), in Adamawa State has called on residents to remain calm, peaceful and be law-abiding over the March 18th governorship elections.

The CAN Chairman and Catholic Bishop of Yola, Bishop Stephen Mamza made the call during a press conference at his office on Sunday.

The March 18, 2023 governorship election result was declared as inconclusive
by the Independent National Electoral Commission, which means that a supplementary election will take place in the state.

According to him. while citizens await a new date for the supplementary election, INEC should ensure that the election
is conducted in a free, fair, and transparent atmosphere.

He says. “Thus, while we are concerned about some of the irregularities noticed in the collation and tabulation of results during the March 18 polls in the state, let us not forget that both INEC, the electorates, members of the diplomatic community, local, national and international observers, law enforcement
agencies and the media, are all stakeholder in whatever it takes to have good, fair credible and peaceful elections. No one should therefore infringe on the independence of INEC as this will pose a risk to public safety.

“We, therefore, call on all to remain calm and to renew their confidence in INEC’s Independence and professionalism
for openness, transparency, and fairness in handling the votes of the electorates as we are set to go for a re-run,” he said.
