The Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. (Mrs.) Uju Nworgu says the Ministry is committed to enforcement of punitive measures against rape to put a final stop to it in Anambra State.
Dr. Nworgu gave the assurance while speaking with journalists in Awka.
Our correspondent reports that while expressing shock over the alarming rate of rape of children and women by the male folk, Dr. Nworgu called on victims of rape to always speak out as the law stipulates that whoever is found guilty of it on conviction will be sentenced to a life imprisonment.
She stated that the state government frowns vehemently against rape and other sexual offences urged the victims to endeavor to let the government know who the accused are so that they will be
punished accordingly to serve as a deterrent to others.
Dr. Nworgu also urged the people to stop stigmatization of children or women
who are victims of rape so that they can be courageous to speak out.
On her part, the Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Stella Igboka who condemned the act in its entirety maintained that the association is in the forefront of the war against rape and called on parents to go the extra mile to protect their children.
Mrs. Igboka also urged the Anambra State House of Assembly to strengthen the existing laws on rape to safeguard women against it.
