Anambra State has emerged as one of Nigeria’s highest-performing states in the latest Open Government Partnership (OGP) Nigeria Subnational Status Ranking, receiving a 100 percent “Healthy” rating for its implementation of open government reforms.

The July 2026 assessment placed Anambra alongside Kaduna and Plateau states at the top of the rankings, recognizing their commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in governance.

The OGP Nigeria ranking evaluates participating states based on key indicators that measure how effectively they implement open government principles. Other states that achieved the “Healthy” status include Adamawa, Kano, Kogi, and Osun.

Meanwhile, Abia, Oyo, and Taraba were classified under the “Need to Grow” category, while Delta, Kebbi, Yobe, Cross River, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Nasarawa, Sokoto, and Zamfara were listed as being in “Critical Condition.”

Reacting to the development, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, Christian Aburime, described the ranking as an independent endorsement of the Anambra State Government’s commitment to transparent and accountable governance.

According to Aburime, the recognition reflects the administration’s focus on building strong institutions and implementing lasting reforms rather than pursuing short-term political gains. He noted that the OGP assessment is based on a rigorous framework that measures practical evidence of transparency and citizen engagement, rather than government claims.

He added that Anambra’s top rating demonstrates sustained political commitment to open governance, with reforms supported by government policies, institutional structures, and active public participation.

Aburime also highlighted the state’s improvements in public service delivery, particularly in the healthcare sector, where Anambra has received recognition from international development partners for its performance. He said these achievements are the result of an administration that prioritizes strong institutions and effective governance.

He further stated that the OGP rating sends a positive signal to investors, development partners, and residents by showing that government processes are transparent, resources are properly managed, and accountability mechanisms are functioning effectively.

While celebrating the achievement, Aburime stressed that maintaining open government standards requires continuous improvement. He said the OGP framework encourages participating states to regularly review their commitments and strengthen reforms to ensure transparency remains a permanent feature of governance.

The latest ranking places Anambra among the leading states in Nigeria in terms of open government practices, reinforcing its reputation for institutional development and accountable public administration.
