Anambra State Police have made two significant arrests: a 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaji, for allegedly murdering his 68-year-old mother, Dorathy Anyaji, and twelve individuals operating a drug camp.

Anyaji, from Amudo Village, Ekwulobia, was arrested on April 11th, 2025, after allegedly killing his mother following a dispute over their cassava farming profits.

He subsequently attempted suicide, and an axe was recovered from the scene. Police are holding Anyaji under close observation pending his arraignment in court.

Separately, a Police raid on a drug camp in Umuokpala Village, Orumba North LGA, led to the arrest of twelve men aged 20-29.

The suspects – Ifeanyi Bernard, Emmanuel Ugwu, Thankgod Kelechi, Umeh Chidera, Aguiyi Onyeka, Onyeka Martin, Festus Ihezie, Chibundu Nicholas, Solomon Obiefule, Chibundu Daniel, Neke Shedrack, and Nwazufu Kingsley – are accused of selling and consuming hard drugs.

Police seized a substantial quantity of suspected cannabis and other illegal substances.

The twelve suspects have been transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

The police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed both incidents.

In another development, Anambra Police rescued a gunshot victim and arrested two suspects in Ukwulu on April 12, 2025, recovering an AK-47 rifle, a pistol, and six rounds of ammunition.

Responding to a shooting incident, Special Anti-Cultism Squad officers from Enugu-Ukwu prevented further escalation.

The victim, who is reportedly involved in an ongoing family dispute with the armed suspects (who are brothers), is receiving medical treatment.

The suspects are in custody and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
