APC governors shouldn’t neglect grassroots members – Former IGP Adamu
A former Inspector General of Police, Adamu Abubakar Mohammed, has called on state Governors under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) to cease from neglecting grassroots members.
The former Police Chief turned Democrat made the disclosure at All Progressive Stakeholders Forum event held in Abuja.
According to the gubernatorial aspirant in Nasarawa State, “After I joined mainstream politics, I have being consulting in all the wards of the local governments of Nasarawa State, I found out that we have some challenges were grassroots politicians who had laboured for the party are being left out from the gains and dividends of democracy.
“I sat with APC members at the grassroots levels in all the wards of Nasarawa State, it is the same complaint, that they have been neglected, but those who are responsible to carry along these people after victories should take note, it has to be the state government itself. The politicians that are governing the state and all APC states should take the responsibilities of these supporters and not to leave it with the federal government.
“The grassroots have complaints here and there, I found out in my state, a situation where you don’t come together and bring success to the party, if you lose a state, your members will be in trouble, because nobody will take care of them.
“So, the responsibility is not to be left to the federal government, or at the federal level, but at a different strata between state and local government levels. I suggest that the grassroots members should be carried along, now.
“APC stakeholders have a big work to do by getting in contact with various governors and chairmen of local governments to bring back the ward officials into activities of growth and development to rejuvenate, resuscitate the supporters for the APC to become more vibrant, towards 2027 general elections.
“I am confident that the unity of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) is needed so that the oncoming 2027 general elections would be much easier than the 2023 elections.
“The APC has a lot to do if we need unity, cohesion and dedication of members of the APC before, during and after elections”. He said
The retired police chief who represented Nigeria at INTERPOL headquarters at Paris in France said, “In the Police, we see the country in a different perspectives at different levels, though we cover all the terrain, but when I join mainstream politics, I have seen the nature that members want to be involved in the affairs of the party even at grassroots level and beyond”.
