Chief John Oyegun, the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who led the party to a resounding victory in the 2015 General Elections, has formally withdrawn from re-contesting the position.
The APC National Convention is billed for June 23, where Oyegun’s kinsman, former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole is coasting to become the next National Chairman.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja on Friday, Oyegun explained he decided not to re-contest was taken having consulted widely with his family, friends and associates.
According to him, though he had the desire to re-contest as the National Chairman, he decided that ultimately it is in the best interest of the party to withdraw from the race.
Oyegun noted that the decision was without prejudice to his commitment to the party in helping to solve subsisting and emerging difficulties and continue to provide necessary leadership.
