Bauchi FRSC recovers, returns N1.6m to families of auto crash victims

Bauchi State Sector Command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) has handed over, the sum of N1.6m recovered from accident victims to their immediate family members in line with the guidelines of the Corps.
The four persons had been confirmed killed in the fatal road crash that occurred at Rinji village, in Toro LGA of Bauchi State along the ever busy Bauchi-Jos Federal Highway.
The confirmation was made by the Sector Commander of the State Sector Command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Patrick Ikaba who said that the crash occurred on Saturday, 23rd March, 2024.
Ikaba made the disclosure in his at the Base, Bauchi on Tuesday, saying that Three others were seriously injured in the crash that involved eight people in the two vehicles.
He explained that only one person was unscathed in the crash, explaining that it took the personnel of the Corps a few minutes to arrive at the scene of the crash to clear the scene after the rescue operation.
The Sector Commander also said that the auto crash involved one private Mercedes Benz and one commercial Opel Vectra, where three males and a female lost their lives.
He added during the evacuation of the victims, the sum of N1.6 million was recovered from the bodies of three of the deceased persons.
According to him, “The Federal Road Safety Corps swung into action and carried out a rescue operation and cleared the crash scene.
“In the process of carrying out the rescue, they recovered a huge sum of money on the bodies of three of the occupants of the vehicles but unfortunately, the amount recovered were found on the dead bodies,” he added.
Ikaba explained that, “One of them was carrying the sum of N1,648,500 while the other was carrying N23,500 and the last person was with N8,700 and the money had been released to their relatives after proper identification.”
The Sector Commander also said that other properties apart from the money recovered from the crash have also been released to the next of kins of the deceased.
He however, advised motorists to always be conscious of traffic rules and regulations while plying the roads.
Speaking with newsmen, Aminu Yahaya, one of the relatives of a deceased person, confirmed to have received a total sum of N1,648,500 on Monday from the Command.
He said, “I want to use this opportunity to express our gratitude to the FRSC especially, with their quick response to the crash which led to the recovery of the money and other items before people with bad intentions got there.”
Yahaya added that, “I collected the money and handed it to the wife of the deceased who has three children of two boys and a baby girl”.
