Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Y Suleiman has congratulated the Assembly and the State in general for emerging first alongside Osun State in subnational audit efficacy index 2021 by the Paradigm Leadership Support Initiative (PLSI), a Civic-tech organisation fostering accountability in Nigeria.
According to the Speaker during plenary on Wednesday, the subnational audit efficacy assesses the level of transparency and accountability operational in the management and utilization of public funds in all 36 states of the federation of Nigeria through the lens of public audit and key stakeholders in the public audit action cycle.
According to him, “The methodology for the 2021 subnational audit efficacy Index involved assessment along six scoring criteria including audit legal framework, audit mandate and role of Public Accounts Committees of States Assembly”
The Speaker therefore attributed the success recorded to the commitment and patriotism of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts under the leadership of Jamilu Umaru Dahiru representing Bauchi Central Constituency.
He added that the passage of the Bauchi State Audit Bill 2021 by the Assembly and the serious scrutiny and oversight conducted by the House Committee on Public Accounts on Auditor General’s audit report have helped a lot in putting Bauchi above its peers in term of excellence in audit framework and transparency.
The Speaker therefore commended the Committee and the Assembly in general for their selfless service to the State urging the members to maintain the tempo for future recognition for the state.
