The Advocacy for Positive Behavioural Patterns Initiative, Nigeria’s foremost behavioural-based non-profit organization, strongly condemns any form of bullying or violence in educational institutions across all levels.
The recent incident of bullying at Lead British International School, Abuja, brought to light the urgent need for concerted efforts to foster a culture of respect, empathy, and kindness within school communities.
The distressing video footage circulating on social media depicting the assault of a student underscores the critical importance of addressing behavioural issues promptly and effectively.
In a statement by the Initiative’s Director, Advisory Model, Obashun Sam Tope, bullying not only inflicts harm on its immediate victims but also undermines the entire learning environment, hindering academic progress and emotional well-being.
The Initiative, however, commended Lead British International School for taking swift action by initiating a thorough investigation into the incident and temporarily closing the school to ensure a comprehensive review.
The statement noted that It is imperative that all schools prioritize the safety and well-being of their students and actively work towards creating inclusive and supportive environments where every individual feels respected and valued.
As an organization dedicated to promoting positive behavioural patterns, the Initiative urges parents, educators, and policymakers to join forces in reinforcing positive behaviour and fostering a culture of mutual respect and understanding.
It pointed out that by teaching empathy, promoting conflict resolution skills, and cultivating a sense of community, the Initiative can empower students to become compassionate and responsible citizens.
The Advocacy for Positive Behavioural Patterns Initiative remains committed to supporting schools in implementing effective strategies for preventing and addressing bullying behaviour.
Through workshops, resources, and advocacy efforts, the Initiative aims to create a safer and more nurturing educational landscape for all.
