Cash, materials donations flow as Kebbi celebrates International Day for People Living with Disability in grand style

Kebbi State Government has affirmed commitment to increase economic empowerment to Persons Living with Disability, towards making them self-reliant as well as discouraging them from street begging.
The First Lady of Kebbi State, Zainab Nasare Nasiru Idris, gave the assurance at the celebration of this year’s World Disability Day, in Birnin Kebbi, on Wednesday.
This year, she said, the administration of her husband, had disbursed one hundred thousand naira each to 650 PWD to engage in entrepreneurship, while the number of recipients would subsequently be increased.
”We want PWD to stop street begging because in addition to the financial support to them this year, the governor has distributed 100 solar-powered tricycles to 100 persons, in furtherance of deliberate efforts to assist them in uplifting their standard of living.
”As the First Lady of Kebbi State, I’ve donated 1000 bags of rice, one bag per person, for famildidignity….
“The Wife of the President, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, donated two hundred thousand naira each to 250 beneficiaries in Kebbi, under the Renewed Hope Initiative, we are highly grateful to her”, Nasare remarked.
Kebbi Deputy Governor, Sen. Umar Abubakar Tafida, welcomed the theme of this year’s celebration, ‘Fostering Disability Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress’.
”Governor Nasir Idris has remained steadfast in respecting the rights and privileges of people with disability and upholding their dignity.
”He has sustained the provision of economic empowerment to PWD and inducting them in skills acquisition for self reliance”, Tafida said.
The Commissioner for Special Duties, Zayyanu Umar Alieru, whose Ministry supervises the Kebbi State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, said, Governor Nasir Idris, has actualised the aeducation: ‘there’s ability in disability’.
”The governor has consistently integrated PWD into the main stream society through economic empowerment and education.
”This year’s benevolence to them by Governor Idris is consolidation on the policy thrust of the administration to making persons with disabilities gainful members of the public with equal opportunities, rights and privileges.
”However, the government will periodically, monitor and reappraise the activities of PWD to ensuring that the financial support advanced to them is utilised for profit making through trade and entrepreneurship”, the Commissioner announced.
