Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State
The People of Agwagune Community in Biase Local Government Area of Cross River have pledged to support the state government’s initiative on tourism development.
The Paramount Ruler of the community, Chief Fidelis Effime, said this while declaring this year’s Agwagune New Yam Festival open.
Effime said the annual festival had become an integral part of the people’s culture.
He expressed joy over the colourful and hitch-free celebration.
“The festival is a reflection of the lifestyle, strength, character, belief and culture of Agwagune people,’’ he said.
He urged the state government to identify with the festival by making it one of the tourism attractions in the state
“I appeal to the government to consider this festival as part of tourism development agenda for the state.
“On our part, we will do everything possible to continue to make the festival attractive to both our people and visitors, alike.
“We are also prepared to do whatever is required of us by the government to make the festival a big tourism event in the state,’’ the royal father said.
He advised the youths of the area to shun acts capable of tarnishing the image of the community and their immediate families. (NAN)
