Danko Wasagu LG Chairman in Kebbi duffs hat to security over gallant rescue mission in the area

By El-Yakub Dabai, Birnin Kebbi

The Chairman of Danko Wasagu Local Government Area in Kebbi, Alhaji Hussaini Bena, has commended the gallantry and resilience the security operatives demonstrated in the fight against bandits last Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday in Bena town and environs.

‎He said Bena would have been in a sorry state if not for the quick response of the security personnel who on receiving distress calls from the community during the three encounters, responded swiftly deploying ruthless but tactical force and overwhelmed the bandits before rescuing the kidnapped victims.

‎Bena said while over 51 kidnapped victims in two separate operations were freed from their captors, the third whose number was huge and unquantified, initially encircled in the city centre, was rescued after an exchange of heavy gunfire with the bandits, who unfortunately ran away with two people.

‎”We are happy to say that since the commencement of insurgency we have never witnessed surge of banditry as the one of last week where they came in large number but were forced to retreat after facing the brutal force of security forces, especially the army.” Bena said

‎The Chairman further disclosed that:”The fight that led to the rescue of the encircled people in the city centre was a farce encounter as it was reported that the bandits had fired over one thousand bullets. Neither the people nor security personnel was hit in the process.”

‎While reacting to social media news that bandits were killing Christians in Nigeria, the Chairman dismissed such claims saying they were politically motivated talks because “all the victims kidnapped in Bena are Muslims and the security personnel that fought them comprised of Christians and Muslims.”

‎He however thanked Governor Nasir Idris for providing financial, logistics and moral support to security personnel who doggedly were fighting insurgency and banditry in the state as well as infiltrators from neighbouring states not only to keep Kebbi safe but Nigeria as a whole, demonstrating a strong political will for a peaceful society.
