Defections won’t affect APC with Buhari as candidate — Rep Jibrin
Rep Jibrin
A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumini Jibrin (APC, Kano), said yesterday that with President Muhammadu Buhari as candidate of the ruling party, the gale of defections by party members to PDP have made 2019 a no contest.
In an interview with select journalists in Abuja, Jibrin said he would have been jittery by the defections if President Buhari would not go for a second term.
He said Nigerians should look forward to fresh crisis in PDP soon because most of the key personalities that dumped the APC had presidential ambitions.
“For us, there is this consensus within the party; we are just waiting for the timetable to go and do the formalities and adopt President Buhari as the candidate. And with him as our candidate, we are not threatened by all the people that are defecting,” he said.
Jibrin, who said defections were normal as elections approached, said none of the PDP candidates had the towering influence of President Buhari.
“Buhari will win all the states in the North and you all know that the South West is in his kitty. The APC is also making headway in the South South and South East.”
Jibrin also chided PDP for allegedly giving fake promises to most of those that defected. “They said they would give the presidential ticket to all those that defected from the APC. It is an insult to the likes of Atiku, Lamido and others,” he said. (Daily Trust)
