The All Progressives Congress, (APC), in Kebbi State has countered the insinuations by the former Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, that its members attacked his convoy on Monday.

At a news briefing in Birnin Kebbi, on Tuesday, the state Chairman, Abubakar Muhammad Kana Zuru, made it clear that Malami hired armed thugs from Sokoto to cause mayhem in Kebbi.

“The former Minister travelled by road from Sokoto – Birnin Kebbi in a convoy dominated by hired armed thugs from Sokoto, brandishing cutlasses, swords, other sharp objects and sticks, destroying our billboards on their way to condolence visits in Birnin Kebbi”.

He further stated that: “On getting to the APC Secretariat, these hoodlums, attacked the building, while Malami’s security details fired gunshots; we were praying Zuhur Salat, otherwise, there could have been casualties”,

The former Justice Minister, according to the Chairman, was an officer in the temple of justice, but had acted in gross defiance of law and order, stressing that he was aware INEC had not lifted ban on political campaigns, while at the same time violating traffic rules of the convoy moving on the wrong lane.

Earlier speaking to Journalists, the Kebbi Commissioner of Police, Sani M. Bello, informed them that no arrest had so far been made, but investigations were ongoing into the matter.

The briefing was at instance of the aftermath of the clash between the Minister’s supporters and APC members at the Party’s Secretariat just few metres from the former AGF’s residence which led to claims that the skirmishes were caused by the APC supporters who orchestrated a preemptive attack on the convoy taking the former Minister to his home.
