Five years of bloody crisis: Hausa/Fulani/Yandang agree to cease fire in Taraba

The Hausa/ Fulani/Yandang community in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State have resolved to cease fire, five years after.

It will be recalled that the bloody crisis which started from Dong village in Bindoma development area of the Demsa Local Government in Adamawa State on 23 December 2017, spread to Lau neighboring council area of Taraba state in 2018, resulted into wanton lost of lives and properties as several others flee.

Speaking with Apex News Exclusive correspondent in Jalingo shortly after conflict resolution meeting held at Mayo – Lope, Lau local government, Chairman of the committee, Hon. Philip Kundila disclosed that the gathering was not intended to trace history of dark days but to inform the world that permanent peace has restored. “We must agree that we were not our original selves in the past years because of this crisis. But by the grace of God we are able to surmount our misunderstandings and  problems,” he said.

He revealed that some resolution reached at the end of the meeting includes return of all internally displaced persons back to various homes adding that traditional rulers, village and ward heads to carry out screening of strangers in their respective domains particularly farmers, herder, fishermen, etc.

Other agreement reached according to Hon. Kundila are community members resolve to join force to rid themselves of kidnapping, banditry, cattle rustling, armed robbery as well as targeted killings, drugs addiction, destruction of farms by cattle and “hate speech” among several other resolution reached during the meeting.

He therefore appealed to state government, NEMA, NGO’s and spirited individuals to come to the aid of internally displaced persons as they are returning home to resettle.
