Houses burnt in Benue Jukun community mayhem

Abinsi, a Jukun community situated along Makurdi-Gboko highway, in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, has been engulfed in a mayhem Thursday evening leading to wanton destruction of property.
The crisis was said to have started at about 6pm.
Many residents who spoke to Apex News Thursday evening and Friday morning could not assertion exact reasons what led to the crisis.
Though there have been previous clashes between Jukun and Tiv, but there was no remote tension between the two ethnic groups in recent time.
However, it was gathered that some Tivs were having some disagreements and a Jukun, who tried to intervene was rebuffed and things turned against him.
A youth told Apex News that the Tivs starting burning houses of the Jukun across the Christ Reformed Church of Nigeria (CRCN) along the Makurdi-Gboko highway.
It was gathered that a newly built house of a Jukun and moved in two weeks ago was razed.
He said it was at that point that the Jukun in turn began sacking Tiv houses leading to the mayhem.
