Identity management commission targets capture 180m Nigerians

The Anambra State Coordinator of the National Identity Management Commission, Mrs. Bibian Ekweonu, has charged the citizenry to be alive to their civic responsibilities.
Speaking in Awka during a one-day sensitization programme organized for the field officers of the National Orientation Agency, Mrs. Ekweonu advised the people of the South-East geopolitical zone, to take active part in the ongoing National Identity Card registration by the Commission which she said is free.
She stressed the need for the citizenry to always embrace government programmes, policies and activities, adding that the Commission is targeting to register at least one hundred and eighty million Nigerians by 2020.
Mrs. Ekweonu noted that the registration exercise is meant for every Nigerian including the children and called on Mothers to take advantage of the school vacation to register their children.
Earlier, the State Director of the National Orientation Agency, Mr. Charles Nwoji, described the National Identity Card as important as the Permanent Voter’s Card.
The State Manager of the National Identity Management Commission, Mr. Chukwuemeka Modebelu, urged the National Orientation Agency in the State to partner the commission in educating the people on the importance of the National Identification Number harmonization programme through its grass-root sensitization and mobilization mechanisms.
