A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Mohammed Kassim has appealed to the Federal Government to take necessary measures to regulate high cost of diesel and make it affordable for Nigerians.
Kassim said this in an interview with the Apex News Exclusive on Monday in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.
Dr Kassim who also a Special Adviser to Gov Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State on Political Affairs said that continued increase in the price of diesel has had negative impacts on the already impoverished masses as cost of living kept soaring due to inflation.
According to him, price reduction was very critical to ease the pains of Nigerians, as the use of diesel cuts across manufacturing companies, factories, industries, transporters, businesses and homes.
He explained that most business owners in a bid to recover the cost of transportation increased the price of their products and services which in turn affects the masses.
Dr Kassim said that the current price of diesel pegged at N1200 per litre was alarming, adding that it contributed to unnecessary rise in the cost of goods as well as living in Nigeria.
“As a member of our beloved party, the APC and a supporter of this administration, I suggest a reduction in the prices of diesel in line with the renewed hope agenda of this administration.
“This is because many business owners increase the price of their products and services due to the high cost of transportation, while the poor Nigerians suffer the price increase on a daily basis, ” he said.
Kassim, however, commended
President Bola Tinubu for working hard to stabilize the nation’s economy.
He called for support for the President and enjoined Nigerians to live in harmony with one another.
“Nigerians are fully aware that Mr President is not the cause of the present hardships, but they are anxious to see him using his wealth of experience to proffer solutions.
“Mr President has good intentions for this country, as always, i offer my support as a lover of our beloved country and a fervent supporter of his renewed hope agenda,” he said.
