International Women’s Day: Women engineers gives scholarship to six girls
The Association of Professional Women Engineers (APWEN) has giving scholarship to six girls across Nigeria geopolitical zone in celebrating the 2021 International Women’s Day (IWD).
Speaking during APWEN’s celebration of the 2021 IWD with the theme, ChooseToChallenge, the President of the Association, Engr. Funmilola Oyelade said, there is need for gender equality in all sectors of the economy adding that the association will give room for girls to exhibit their potentials.
“We are moving and making progress.We are celebrating women through young school girls, and awarding scholarship to six school girls. The award is to encourage public schools on the use of Technology.”
“This is surely an advocacy, and we are moving from where we used to be, in order to make considerable progress. We are celebrating young school girls, who will end up as tomorrow’s leader. We are also celebrating men who have supported women in achieving their potentials.”
The President, Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Babagana Muhammed said, there is need to support women because they are also part of them in the Engineering profession.
He said women are.never their slaves but companion hence, the need to support them in their chosen carrier adding that besides, Engineering is not about gender but knowledge and.the women are well knowledgeable and brilliant.
“It is time we speak an advocate for the girl-child to be given equal opportunities and also, women Engineers should be given equal opportunities to work. Engineering should not be a male dominated environment but knowledge based environment and we have discovered that women are knowledgeable, ours is to support them to thrive.”
He said when he assumes the leadership of NSE, he made it a policy that in every committee of three persons, a woman must be among them and it is in support of giving equal rights and opportunities to the women.
