The Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Danjuma Tella La’ah, has assured residents of Kafanchan and environs who have been without power supply since January that it will be restored in the coming days.
Senator La’ah gave the assurance while speaking with newsmen after a meeting with the management of Kaduna Electric, at its headquarters in Kaduna.
He lamented the unfortunate circumstances that led to the disruption of power supply in the area, and noted that it has crippled businesses and other socio-economic activities of the people.
The lawmaker appealed to the people in the area, especially consumers of electricity, to resort to legal means of addressing their grievances, and said a lot has been lost already due to the power outage.
In a remark, the Managing Director of Kaduna Electric, Engineer Garba Haruna, said it was not deliberate, or in the company’s interest to deny power supply to a region, as a distribution company.
Haruna regretted that the actions of a disgruntled few, has affected many consumers, and said Kaduna Electric wishes to maintain an excellent working relationship with its customers to serve them better.
He said the management of Kaduna Electric will consider how to ensure that defaulters meet up with payment of bills, so that power supply will be consistent to boost economic activities in the area, and how to avoid a repeat of the destruction of equipment at its Kafanchan office.
It would be recalled that a protest on 14th January over erratic power supply to parts of Kafanchan turned violent, leading to destructions of some properties at the Kaduna Electric Distribution Company, (KEDCO).
