Kebbi expends N79bn on major projects in 2024 – Works Commissioner

The Incumbent administration in Kebbi State of Governor Nasir Idris, has spent more than N79 billion on roads and other major capital projects in 2024.
The Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdullahi Umar Faruk, announced this in Birnin Kebbi, on Wednesday, while reviewing the activities of the ministry in the past year.
Major projects executed included the completion of the State Ultra Modern Secretariat Complex, Gwadangaji, which gulped more than N10 billion, dualisation of the Birnin Kebbi – Ambursa road, N5.6 billion, construction and rehabilitation of Birnin Kebbi City centre roads, N12.9 billion, rehabilitation of Yauri township roads, N5 billion and the construction of Birnin Kebbi Ultra Modern Motor Park, N2.9 billion.
The Commissioner further stated that others were the dualisation of Argungu old bye-pass road, N6.8 billion, renovation of Argungu General Hospital, N469.5 million and construction of fuel dump at the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Birnin Kebbi, N300.6 million.
“Renovation, modification, furnishing, construction of additional office and access road at the State Pilgrims Welfare Agency at N708.8 million, construction of box culvert and retaining wall along Birnin Kebbi – Makera road consumed N395 million and repairs of bridge on the Bunza – Dakingari road gulped N296 million.
Engineer Faruk also mentioned the rehabilitation, remodeling, provision of furnishing to the Government House was carried out at the cost of N4.2 billion, while various sums of money was spent on other projects spread throughout Kebbi, including health facilities, classrooms and Mosques.
“I am praising the uncommon foresight and wisdom of Governor Nasir Idris for directing the engagement of only tested, experienced and qualified contractors to execute the projects. In the next two weeks, the governor will flag off the construction of the Dabai-Mahuta-Koko road which is dear to his heart.
“The road is an economic power house to seven local government areas in Kebbi South; Koko-Besse, Yauri, Shanga, Fakai, Danko-Wasagu, Zuru and Sakaba being the agricultural backbone of Kebbi State with a population of 2 million people,” he said.
