By El-Yakub Dabai, Birnin Kebbi

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has on Saturday cast his vote in the maiden Local Government elections of his administration before expressing appreciation over the large turned out of electorates to elect their chairmanship and councillorship candidates.

Speaking to journalists shortly after casting his vote, Governor Nasir Idris attributed the large turn out to his administration’s track record of executing people-oriented projects across the 21 councils and 225 wards in the state, stressing that the conducive environment made the election peaceful and orderly.

“This is the second election being conducted since I became Governor. When I was elected, we completed an inconclusive election in Arewa/Dandi Federal Constituency, and a fresh one for Shanga/Yauri/Ngaski Federal Constituency following the appointment of Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu as State Minister for Education,” the Governor said.

Governor Idris further stressed by saying, “with Almighty God on our side, we were able to win all the elections, and In sha Allahu, by God’s grace, if track records are indications, I believe the people of Kebbi State will vote for our great party, APC.”

Also speaking, the Commissioner of Finance, Abubakar Muhammad Birnin Kebbi expressed confidence in his party’s victory at the polls and urged the incoming Chairmen and Councillors to follow the footsteps of Governor Nasir Idris in the areas of infrastructural and socioeconomic development of their communities and the people, besides imbibing the culture of welfarism.

Abubakar, who is also the APC Campaign Coordinator for the Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area, the voting centre for the Governor, Ministers and political heavyweights, commended voters for defying the heavy rains and turned out in large numbers and exercised their civil responsibilities, commending Governor for choosing elected officials to lead Local Governments instead of Sole Administrators.

While talking to newsmen, the Chief of Staff Government House, Barrister Attahiru Maccido, associated the large turnout of women and youths during voting with the empowerment programs designed and executed for their overall wellbeing especially in the recent cash grants targeting them on regular basis.

Maccido said the recent cash grant of 100, 000 Naira to each of the sixty five thousand beneficiaries besides the provision of free fertilizer to able bodied youth, skills acquisitions and the award of scholarships to students were all geared towards arresting poverty in the society.
