Kebbi mourns 8 Almajiris, donates N20m to families

Kebbi State Government has expressed deepest condolences on the death of eight Almajiris who lost their lives on Saturday in a borrow pit collapse while collecting laterite sands for domestic maintenance.

Before the tragedy which took the death toll from seven to eight with survivors from one to two, the Islamic pupils were studying Qur’an under a popular Religious Cleric in Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi, the State Capital, Mallam Dan-Umma.

On receipt of the report, Governor Nasir Idris, on an official trip abroad, sent a high powered delegation comprising of Commissioners and Special Advisers led by the Head of Service, Alhaji Safiyanu Garba Bena to condole with the families of the departed.

According to the Head of Service, “Governor Nasir Idris heartily commiserated with Mallam Dan-Umma, families of the deceased and the entire people of Kebbi State on the sad event as well as prayed Allah to grant their souls mercy and prevent a recurrence of such tragedies.”

“The Governor further prayed for the quick recovery of the injured Almajiris and donated the sum of N20 million naira to the families of the deceased ‘, he announced.

Bena said Governor Nasir Idris has directed all the relevant emergency agencies in the state to take urgent measures to safeguard a repeat of the tragedy anywhere in the state.
