Kebbi to restore mass transit system to ease commuting amidst economic hardships

Kebbi State Commissioner for Transport and Renewable Energy, Bala Mohammed Gagga, says Government has concluded arrangements to procure normal and CNG vehicles to revive the moribund mass transit system for socioeconomic transportation.

Bala Gagga disclosed this while speaking to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi, adding that the decision to restore the subsidised transportation service became necessary taking into consideration the souring cost of commuting without cressponding increase in income amongst the massess.

He said wide consultation was made amongst all various transportation stake holders such as National Transport Owners, NATO, and National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in order to ensure success of the project designed to benefit the grassroots.

The Commissioner said when fully functional, the mass transit system would cover all the twenty one Local Government Areas of the State, all the 19 Northern States of the Federation and some parts of the South-Eastern and South-Weatern Nigeria at a subsidised rate.

While speaking on renewable energy, Gagga said about two hundred and twenty five hospitals would be connected to the solar energy to protect perishable drugs from being wasted as a result of lack of sustainable energy to the cold chain were the drugs were stored.

He noted all these goals were actualised by Governor Nasir Idris through his selfless service to humanity in all aspects of human endeavors, saying the recent transformation seen in the state capital and some parts of the state were just tips of the iceberg because Kebbi would soon be a point of reference in terms of development.
