The people of Amanuke Community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State at the wee hours on Friday, woke up to the wails of a woman whose husband was burnt to death by her father in law.
The incident was said to have been triggered by a fight between the man, his first wife and second wife.
Our correspondent reports that a visit to the site of the incident was met with angry villagers who attacked our correspondent claiming they don’t want publicity.
On inquiry, our correspondent was told that trouble started when the said father in law Mr. Uchechukwu Nweke shot his wife Mrs. Patricia Nweke on account of a fight over an unripped plantain between Mrs. Patricia and the younger wife of Mr. Nweke.
According to a neighbour who pleaded anonymity, Mr. Uchechukwu Nweke separated the fight which also involved his first son Mr. Obinna Nweke.
The son of the man later engaged in another fight with his father to the extent that their kingsmen intervened and promised to settle the matter amicable but unfortunately, Mr. Uchechukwu could not wait for the day to break before he shot his wife, shot his son, set his house ablaze and then shot himself.
When contacted, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer CSP Haruna Mohammed who confirmed the incident said the police would investigate to find out the reason behind the late Uchechukwu’s onslaught.
Meanwhile, the bodies of Mr Uchechukwu, his son Obinna and wife Patricia were still at the burnt residence as at the time of filing this report.
