Miri, former INEC commissioner, picks Plateau SDP governorship ticket

Mr Miri
A former Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), in Gombe State, Mr Godfrey Miri, has ticket the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ticket to contest for the Plateau governorship seat in 2019.
Miri, who had also served as REC in Kaduna, Nasarawa, Ogun, and Kogi states, picked the ticket on Friday in Jos, after all delegates unanimously endorsed his candidature.
Mr Pam Dung, an official of the party in Jos North Local Government, who moved the motion for the endorsement, said that Miri had the qualities to lead the state.
“Since Miri has no opponent, there is no need for a formal primary election; we should simply endorse him,” he said.
The motion was promptly supported by Mr Kamsen Rotgak, a party stalwart from Pankshin.
Miri, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) shortly after he was endorsed, promised to run an open government that would accommodate suggestions and contributions from all.
He thanked the SDP members for trusting him with the ticket, and urged them to work hard toward success in the general elections. (NAN)
