Governor Sule of Nasarawa State

Governor Abdullahi Sule will, on Friday, inaugurate a technical and advisory committee that will assist Nasarawa State towards the actualization of its oil and gas industry.

Governor Sule made this known while chatting with members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) who were on a working visit at the Government House on Thursday.

According to the Governor, the committee is to be chaired by an expert in oil and gas who has worked for Chevron in Houston, Texas, who flew into the country in order to be part of the inauguration.

“We are bringing in people who are from the industry who are assisting the state. We are not bringing in politicians. We are bringing people who are purely oil and gas industry experts who are going to guide us,” he said.

Governor Sule disclosed that driven by the passion to see the oil and gas industry comes to reality in the state, he has been closely monitoring the entire process starting from the seismic acquisition to the present ongoing drilling operations.

“From the little that we have been doing so far, we have been constantly engaging the contractors who are doing the drilling operations in the area. To know the challenges they are facing.

“Before even the decision to go into drilling, we have been constantly in touch with those acquiring the seismic. When the seismic was sent for processing, we followed. We were constantly following up to make sure the processing was done. After the processing, we followed up on the interpretation also,” he added.

The Governor said he is bringing his experience in the oil and gas sector to bear in making sure that the drilling operations in Obi is successful.

“That is where the advantage of knowing some of those big companies in the industry comes into play. It gives me the opportunity to monitor and to know what is happening step by step as far as our oil and gas operation is concerned,” he stated.

He cited the example of how he came to the rescue of the contractors handling the drilling operations in Obi when the ran into a problem that could have delayed the work.

“When they were having serious challenges, when they even lost the weld head, and in the process the drilling head, and they were looking for an efficient tool, it will shock you to know that I was talking to the company that was going to supply the fishing tool. They did not have one immediately and I said when you have so and so in so many places, why dont you make it available to them? Get it for them so that they can go and fish for the drilling head and continue with their operations.

“That is how deep I get because I am passionate to ensure that this oil and gas operation becomes a reality,” he said.
