Nasarawa official hails Federal High Court decision on LG autonomy

Following the recent decision by a Federal High Court that granted financial autonomy to the third-tier of Government, an official of the Nasarawa State government, who is a special Adviser to Governor Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has hailed the verdict.

Honourable Samuel Gajere Akala, who was a one time local government chairman, Karu local government area of Nasarawa State, said the decision of the federal high Court on the local government autonomy was a welcome development.

Akala, was a guest on a Radio Nigeria programme, being monitored by Apex News Exclusive, added that the position of the Federal High Court on granting of full financial autonomy to the local government will further strengthen financial transparency in the local government system in the country.

He said “This will of course help stimulate economy activities within the third tier of the government in Nigeria.

“And as one who has been former chairman of a local government,I know the import of what this would mean to the local government system.

“I keep saying that the only place where every citizen reside is the the third tier of the government ,which is supposed to be the strongest tier of Government”, Akala said.

The Special Adviser to the governor of Nasarawa State on urban development, Samuel Akala further explained that,the NFIU guideline which was released in February was actually targeted at ensuring that the funds meant for the local government gets to them.

Honourable Akala ,also call on institutions like the NFIU, ICPC and the EFCC to get involved in ensuring judicious utilizations of fund that accrued to the local government.
