The 5th National Convention of University of Cross River State (Unicross) Alumni Association will ratify Dr Peter Iyali as its President on 12 December 2023 following his successful screening and clearance by the electoral committee.
The Electoral Committee Chairman and Secretary, Comrades Victor Agbor and John Utibe, respectively had earlier disqualified two other candidates, Andrew Ntul and Jumbo Isek.
Ntul had pulled out from the race and was accordingly disqualified. He did not also attend the screening.
Isek on the other hand was disqualified for not meeting the constitutional requirements to contest for the office.
Inyali, a graduate of Mass Communication from the same University and former Students’ leader became the only qualified Presidential candidate successfully screened and cleared by the electoral board.
The national convention holds at the U.J Esuene Stadium.
Speaking with journalists, Inyali said that although he has been announced as the sole candidate for the position, his victory is not yet official as executives of the association can only emerge in the floor of the national convention.
“we have worked so hard to get to the level we are now. For me, even though I can confirm that I have seen the official release where I was the only candidate screened and cleared for the position of National President, I can still not been recognised as President because only a validly constituted convention can determine that.”
Iyali promised to react formally after he has been proclaimed at the Calabar stadium.
