The National Universities Commission (NUC), on Tuesday finally accredited five remaining courses in the faculties of Arts and Social sciences of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Kogi.

A statement signed and issued by the FUL Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof Olayemi Akinwumi, in Lokoja, described the accreditation as apt, and awelcome development.

The VC said: “NUC release of the all-awaited results of its re-accreditation exercise conducted at the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) in October/November 2021, is apt, and a welcome development.”

He explained that the good news was conveyed to his office via a letter signed by its Director of Accreditation, Dr. Maryam Sali, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed.

“In the letter, NUC readily presented details of the technical reports, and summary results of the existing academic programmes in the Faculty of Arts, and the Faculty of Social Sciences visited.

“The five academic programmes that retained their full accreditation status for a period of five years as released by the NUC, included English and History (Arts), Economics, Geography and Political Science (Social sciences).

“Interestingly, these five programmes had consistently maintained their full accreditation status since the first accreditation exercise conducted in 2015,” he stated.

According to him, the gesture was a result of the different accreditation panels from the NUC, who had visited the University towards the end of 2021 for the re-accreditation of the programmes which were already due for the exercise.

The VC attributed the feat to the committed and hardworking academic staff within the various departments in the two faculties.

He further disclosed that the existing academic programmes in the Faculty of Science would soon be visited by the NUC also for the purpose of their re-accreditation.

Akinwumi expressed his deep gratitude to the Commission, members of the accreditation team, staff, and students of the University for their various roles, support, and tireless efforts that led to the remarkable achievement. (NAN)
