Nguru Local Government Chairman in Yobe urges federal government to provide seeds, fertilisers to farmers

The Executive Chairman of Nguru Local Government Area of Yobe State. Hon Muhammad Mairami, has called on the federal government to provide affordable farm inputs like seeds, insecticides, herbicides and fertilisers to boost food production.

Speaking to Journalists in his home town of Nguru on Sunday, disclosed that farmers needed some level of mechanisation, which included seeds, fertilizers, tractors and others.

He said that, farmers needed a sense of security alongside other requirements to enable them put in more work at the farms, various farm tools would help our teaming farmers in the State.

“This is the only way to get out because you cannot go and buy food from anywhere, we have availability of farm land, we have water for irrigation, we need government support both state, federal and International donor” said Mairami.

He added that ” All that farmers want to see is to have good yield from seeds that are made available to them, our farmers are always ready to go farm both elderly, youths and women. improving his yield and the seed availability and affordability of the seeds,’’ said Mairami.

He stressing the need for the masses to rekindle their interest in farming in order to meet both local and international consumption.

Hon Mairami enjoned community to continue supporting the present administration in it’s efforts to tackle the myriad of challenges facing the country and provide succour to the citizenry.

” God Almighty has been so good to us in Nigeria. We have a lot of potentials, before the advent of oil, agriculture was the mainstay of our economy, we neglected agriculture which have greater prospects with the land we have on abundance” said Chairman.

He also called on the farmers of his local government to continue giving their support and minimum cooperation to the government of Yobe state for the recent preparation of distribution of agriculture inputs.
