Nigeria Vice President, Osinbajo urges local governments to sustain existing economic synergy for growth

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has urged the three tiers of government to sustain the existing synergy among them so as to enhance the nation’s economy growth.
Osinbajo made the call in Abakaliki while declaring closed the 21st edition of the Joint Planning Board and the National Council on Development Planning meeting held in Abakaliki Ebonyi state capital.
The programme which stared on Wednesday was declared opened by the deputy governor who represented governor, David Umahi and was closed on Friday, April 8, 2022.
The Vice President argued that such synergy would assist in surmounting challenges which presently hinder the country’s economic enhancement.
“The challenges include corruption, recovery from the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic,” he explained.
He maintained that the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia which started last two months, affecting essential the price of oil in the international market and food items.
“The invasion of Russia has led to price and supply shocks in the food and fuel markets and we should collectively brace for its inevitable economic challenges.
Osinbajo further stated that President Muhammadu Buhari strongly believes that national councils such play an important role in boosting economic and related cooperation between states.
He however, commented governor David Umahi for his infrastructural development in the state and ensuring successful organisation of the event.
“I commend the Ebonyi state government for ensuring the successful organisation of the event and its infrastructural strides which has enhanced its people’s wellbeing.
Earlier, governor Umahi called for the inclusion of Value Added Tax (VAT) in Exclusive list.
He argued that collection which presently tied between local government, state and federal causes anarchy.
Umahi also stated that the economic challenges is not only peculiar to Nigeria but global.
Also, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, Minister for Finance commended the participants for their fruitful deliberations noting that recommendations from the meeting would enhance national development planning in Nigeria.
Osinbajo will use the occasion to inaugurate some completed projects of governor Umahi’s led administration.
