In a significant move to boost research collaboration and innovation in Nigeria’s mineral and energy sectors, the Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, has embarked on a strategic working visit to the Central Mining Institute (GIG) in Katowice, Poland.
According to statement made available by Information and Protocol Unit, NSUK, on verified social media account, the visit underscores NSUK’s growing international engagement and its commitment to advancing academic research and technological innovation in mining, solid minerals, clean coal technology, and renewable energy.
During the high-level meetings, Professor Liman held talks with Dr. Jarosław Zagorowski, Director of GIG; Associate Professor Alicja Krzemień, President of the European Coal Agency and Head of the Laboratory of Risk Assessment and Industrial Safety; and Professor Adam Smoliński, GIG’s Deputy Director for Research and Development, who also serves as an international faculty member in NSUK’s Department of Geology and Mining.
Discussions focused on deepening collaboration in applied research, fostering sustainable energy solutions, and leveraging academic partnerships for national development. Both institutions reaffirmed their mutual commitment to knowledge-sharing and innovation in key sectors critical to Nigeria’s economic diversification.
Key outcomes from the engagement include the development of joint research projects, establishment of academic fellowships, and the launch of faculty and student exchange programmes. The partnership also aims to expand bilateral cooperation in education, capacity building, and mineral resource development.
The visit represents a major step in NSUK’s global academic outreach and reinforces its role as a hub for cutting-edge research and policy-relevant knowledge in Nigeria’s mining and energy landscape.
