President Bola Tinubu on Friday Commissioned GB Foods Tomato Farming and Processing Factory at Gafara, Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi State, pledging to support both foreign and indigenous investors willing to invest in Nigeria.
Commissioning the factory, the President, represented by the Minister of Agriculture, Senator Abubakar Kyari, said: “This is what we need especially at this period, because it will create job opportunities for the teaming youths which would in turn improve their socioeconomic well-being.”
While commending the giant efforts of the company for the job opportunities created, the president assured the readiness of the federal government to assist the company to create more jobs for the teeming unemployed citizens in the area thereby fight poverty, unemployment and insecurity.
In his speech, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, lauded the efforts of the company for establishing such gigantic project in his state and assured the factory of an enabling environment to operate, adding that the state government was ready to partner with them to ensure that it operated to full capacity.
He said: “I am the most happiest person today, because the company is the biggest tomato processing factory so far with the highest number of out growers totalling 3,335. Therefore, we will give it the needed support and protection to succeed.”
Earlier, the Director, Corporate Affairs of the company, Dr J. Teddy Ngu said GB Foods was cultivating over 1,000 hectres of farmland for the use of the company, explaining that the factory had employed over 5,000 peopl, adding that over 70 per cent of the employees were women.
The Director added that the factory had trained over 10,000 extension agents towards improving agricultural productivity in the country.
