By Akanji Alowoludo, Bauchi
The Federal Government of Nigeria has been advised to initiate a legislative process that will relocate all LGA headquarters located in the state capitals to other towns within the areas.
The call was made by a former Council Chairman in Bauchi state, Danladi Audu Mai’aduga while speaking on Monday in Liman-Katagum village of Bauchi LGA during the official flagging off of the construction of rural roads.
Danladi Mai’aduga opined that if actually government wants to develop the rural areas, it must shift attention from the urban centres as the case Is at present.
According to him, “In the case of Bauchi LGA, just as it is all over the country, the state capital is enjoying dual attention, that of a state capital and Council headquarters. This has denied development of other villages in the LGA.”
He stressed that, “It has had enough, it is time to extend it to other communities. I am therefore suggesting that the headquarters of Bauchi LGA should be relovated here in order to take care of the rural development. I am of the opinion that, it will hasten development.”
The Onetime Council Chairman said that,
“When I heard that you are coming to flag off the construction of this very important road project, I was elated and I commend you for this. We need to shift attention to the opening of the rural areas for even development.”
Danladi Mai’aduga then expressed optimism that by the time the very important road is completed, economic activities in the area will be boosted leading to more internally generated revenue for government and communities.
He also urged the Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir to continue his rural development efforts in order to reduce rural – urban drift.
The Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir flagged the construction of the Liman-Katagum – Luda – Bauchi rural road as he promised during his reelection campaign.
