Respect court order, return to classes, students are eager to resume learning – NANS begs ASUU

Following the ruling of the industrial Court which directed members of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to go back to work pending the determination of the suit, leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has appealed to the lecturers to respect the Court by calling off the strike action, resume academic activities while the intending appeal goes on.
The appeal was made by the North-East Zone E of NANS during a press conference held on Friday at the NUJ Press Center, Bauchi calling on the FG to as a matter necessity pay the lecturers the outstanding 7 months salaries.
North-East Zonal Coordinator of NANS, Comrade Alhassan Adam said that the appeal is coming in the struggle for peace and quality education in the country.
Flanked by other Zonal and State officials, Alhassan Adam said that, “We are here today Friday the 23rd September, 2022 to address a press conference here in Bauchi State regarding the court judgement between ASUU and Federal Government” .
According to him, “After a seven months Stand-off between ASUU and Federal Government, just last Wednesday, the industrial court made a judgement between the federal government and academic staff union of university (ASUU)”.
He said that, “The Federal Government won the Case against ASUU, indeed, the Judgement is a WIN WIN to Nigerian Students under the leadership of the new President of NANS, Comrade Usman Umar Barambu”.
“Based on that, the leadership of Nigerian Students (NANS) deem it very necessary to call on the ASUU to please respect the judgement of the court with good faith, so that our students can return back to classes after a seven months of deadbeat staying at home”, he added.
The Zonal leadership further said that, “We learned that the ASUU will appeal the case, Yes, it is their right to appeal, but, please they should respect the judgement as we earlier said to return to work while the case continues in the court of Appeal” .
“At the same time, we are calling on the federal government to also pay them their owning to enable them settle their debts and other expenses incurred in the last 7 seven months without salaries”, he appealed.
He assured that, “The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) shall at any time stand and protect the interest of Nigerian Students” .
“Finally, we want to commend the government of Bauchi State under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Bala A Mohammed (Kauran Bauchi) for the tremendous contribution given to the development of education in State and also towards the maintainance of peace”.
According to him, “Senator Bala A Mohammed has done very much well in the State, in terms of development and welfare of Nigerian Students” .
Alhassan Adam added that, “We equally thank the Department of State Security Services (SSS) and other security agencies in Bauchi State for always standing with Nigerian Students at all time . We shall continue to be partners in peace building and Progress” .
He concluded saying, “On this note, we hope to hear a positive feedback from both Federal Government and ASUU as we continue to engage them and fight for the interest of our dear students”.
