The fake Facebook account
By Anthony Maliki, Abuja
The attention of Senator Simon Lalong representing Plateau South Senatorial District has been drawn to a fake Facebook account that is reportedly asking people to apply for a so-called “ongoing Federal Government Agricultural Empowerment Fund for Small Farmers and Small Scale Businesses” under his recommendation.
In the fake communication, the Distinguished Senator is alleged to be directing interested persons to contact one “Dr. Timothy on 08163017587” who is said to be the Director of the programme.
The rebuttal was contained in a statement by Dr. Makut Simon Macham, Special Adviser on Media to Senator Lalong on Thursday.
The Senator wishes to dissociate himself from the said Facebook account and its contents as well as the so-called Agricultural Empowerment Fund or its alleged Director which is not only fake, but an attempt by scammers to dupe unsuspecting members of the public using his good name and office.
Senator Lalong has a clear line of communication with his constituents and will extend any programme to them in an unambiguous manner through his official channels and not the fake account created by fraudsters to use his name and office for dubious purposes.
For emphasis, the official handles of Senator Simon Bako Lalong are: https://www.facebook.com/plsgdoppa?mibextid=kFxxJD and https://www.facebook.com/OfficialLalongBako?mibextid=kFxxJD.

Members of the public are hereby advised to disregard the said Facebook account and its contents.
The Senator has equally alerted the authorities to fish out and arrest those behind the scam with a view to bringing them to justice.
