Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Abubakar Y Suleiman has said that implementation of the Executive Order 10 which granted financial autonomy to states legislature and judiciary is being finalized.
The Chairman who joined Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State and Governor Bello Muhammad of Zamfara State to meet the Chief of Staff to the President Professor Ibrahim Gambari at the Presidential Villa on Friday explained that the meeting was fruitful and final modalities for the implementation are put in place.
According to him, the meeting was at instant of President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure all processes for the implementation of the Executive Order are finalized and the State Governors have expressed their total support to the financial autonomy.
“I have led the leadership of the Speakers Conference to meet with the Chief of Staff and the Nigeria Governors Forum last week, this is our second meeting and we will meet again next week to put final touches to the implementation framework.” The Chairman said.
He dispelled the insinuation in some quarters that some Speakers see the governors as enemies, assuring that no Speaker will disrespect or see his governor as enemy but partner in progress.
Rt. Hon. Suleiman added that all grey areas in the Executive Order are being resolved and they will meet again with the Chief of Staff on Thursday next week to put final modalities for the implementation which he said will augur well to the Country.
He expressed the appreciation of the Speakers Conference to the President, Chief of Staff and the Governors for the meeting and efforts toward the implementation of the financial autonomy for the two arms as contained in a statement by Abdul Ahmad Burra, spokesperson to the Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly.
