Statement by Hon. Danladi Baido, Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Taraba State on the March 18, 2023 election
Taraba State underdevelopment makes my heart bleeds
My dear good people of Taraba State,I send you warm greetings on this historic dawn in the life of our great state as we go to the polls on March 18, 2023 to elect a new Governor.
I want to implore you all to maintain peace and order as you exercise your civic duty. Without peace, a democratic process will not be achieved.
Besides, I also want to beseech you to critically look at those of us contesting in the governorship election, examine our backgrounds and see who is most suitable to jump start the development of the state in this momentous time.
As you do that, I want you to discard any bias in your criteria and scrutinize each of us based on merit, experience and competence.
Over the past weeks and months, I have interacted with various sections of Taraba people-individually, in clusters and in groups- and gave them reasons why I want to be the Governor of the state contesting under the Social Democratic Party (SDP). These include peace, justice and an inclusive government among many others. I told them if these are achieved, all other things pertaining economic and infrastructure growth, provision of social amenities, health, education and agriculture among others would naturally fall in place.
I honestly believed that I am best suited to be next Governor of Taraba State among all the contestants. My pedigree with the people of the state dates many years back and my precedent which can only improve when you elect me governor of our dear state.
Now, there is no turning back and you hold the authority to elect the Chief Executive that would not make the state a laughing stoke among its peers.
It is very sad that states created with Taraba and those after her have developed tremendously even with less resources. It makes my heart bleeds.
As you march towards your various polling units with your PVCs, meditate hard and deep on the decision you will take which will either plunge Taraba State into more misery or lift her to grace and abundance.
The choice is yours but I offer myself as the best man for the job.
Once more I implore all the people of Taraba State to ensure a peaceful election.
