The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has conferred the prestigious traditional title of Gwarzon Daular Usmaniyya on the Governor of Kebbi State, Dr. Nasir Idris, in recognition of his exceptional relationship with traditional institutions.
The conferment was formally announced through a letter delivered by the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammadu Mera, who represented the Sultan at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, on Friday.
In his message, the Sultan commended Governor Idris for his impactful contributions to education, healthcare, and security in Kebbi State.
The Sultan said the conferment “This title is a token of appreciation and encouragement to further inspire your service to humanity.”
In his response, Governor Idris expressed profound appreciation for the honor, emphasizing the unique recognition he has received from the four prominent Emirates in Kebbi State.
“Today, the Sultan has bestowed on me the title of Gwarzon Daular Usmaniyya’. Similarly, Gwandu has honored me with Kauran Gwandu, Argungu with Jigon Kabi, Yauri with Gamjin Yauri, and Zuru with Garkuwan Zuru.
“In Hausa land, and perhaps across Nigeria, no governor has been so extensively honored by first-class Emirates as I have. This is a rare blessing, and I express my deepest gratitude to the Sultan and all the Emirs. I will find time to visit the Sultanate in Sokoto to personally show my appreciation,” the Governor said.
Governor Idris reiterated his administration’s commitment to upholding and supporting traditional institutions, ensuring their welfare and dignity.
“We have provided our four first-class Emirs with modern vehicles similar to those I use as Governor. Their welfare and well-being remain a priority for this administration. We are proud of the positive feedback at the national level regarding the excellent performance of Kebbi’s traditional rulers in their various assignments,” he added.
In a related event, the Fulani community of Kebbi State has conferred the title of Jigon Fulanin Kebbi on Governor Idris during the Huttungo Cultural Festival, held as part of the Gwandu Emirate’s Horse Racing and Cultural Festival.
The Governor was decorated with the regalia of the title by Alhaji Muhammad Kiruwa, his Special Adviser on Fulani Matters, at the event in Bulasa, Birnin Kebbi, on Friday.
This dual recognition underscores the Governor’s unwavering commitment to promoting cultural heritage and fostering harmonious relationships among all communities in Kebbi State.
