Taraba flags-off disbursement of N442m grants to 7,015 Micro, Small Enterprises

The Taraba State Government has flagged off the disbursement of Micro and Small Enterprises operational support grants, amounting to N422 million to 7, 015 beneficiaries.

The flagged off ceremony was performed by the State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas in Jalingo.

The disbursement was a collaboration of the Taraba State Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (TARABACARES), a World Bank and the Federal Government of Nigeria-assisted project

The beneficiaries were drawn from 16 local government councils of the state.

The Governor, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Alkali said thousands of youths and women will continue to benefit from the grants which are aimed at improving the general welfare of the people.

The Governor while congratulating the beneficiaries for being successful for the grant, expressed the hope that the funds will be deployed for the intended purposes with a view to contributing to the economic prosperity of the State.

In a welcome address, state Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Industries, Hon. Peter George, noted that the objective of the project was to eradicate poverty through empowerment of communities which will help in reviving the economy of the state.

The Commissioner for Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Habu James and the Chief of Staff Government House Administration, Dr. Jeji William said the orogramme will help many communities in the state.

They commended the Governor for its human capital development and called on the beneficiaries not to take the opportunity for granted as it will go a long way to impact on their livelihood.

Also, the State Programme Coordinator, Polycarp Adi and Head Cares Coordinating Unit, Mr. Tijani Magaji Shark, observed the flag off of the disbursement of the grants will enhance job creation, and stimulate economic growth which is in line with the Development Agenda of the administration of Governor Kefas.

Cheques were later presented to some of the beneficiaries and reminded that the grant was designed to provide financial support to expand operations, improve productivity, create more jobs and overcome challenges.
