A teenager identified as Chidera has been killed in what is believed to be a robbery-related attack in the Mmiata Anam community of Anambra State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday night when the victim was confronted by a group of youths while moving within the area.
An anti-cultism advocacy group, our source, disclosed the development in a statement shared on Thursday, alleging that the attackers came from the neighbouring Umuoba community.
According to the group, the assailants allegedly demanded money from the teenager and attempted to rob him. The situation reportedly escalated, resulting in his death.
Our source also noted that there were conflicting accounts from residents regarding the motive behind the attack.
While some community members suggested the killing was cult-related, others maintained it was purely a robbery incident, though some alleged the suspects were cultists.
The platform added that those responsible had been arrested by local authorities in Mmiata.
Attempts to obtain official comments from the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages sent to him had not been returned at the time of filing this report.
The incident adds to growing concerns over violent attacks in the State. In December, it was reported that four people were killed during a separate violent incident near Afor Market Junction in the Nawfia community of Njikoka Local Government Area of the State.
